What do I appreciate most about Pieter Schoolwerth’s painting?

In Subway Series #3, I feel a sense of life because of the bold colors, fragmented figures, and baseball elements. The painting reminds me of a robot that is mechanical but full of energy. At first, I didn’t understand the meaning, but it successfully caught my attention and made me curious to look deeper. The broken and layered visuals feel like digital glitches, which makes the painting resemble a distorted image on a screen.

What visual and conceptual features stand out about this painting?

I think the key feature of Pieter Schoolwerth’s painting is the interplay between the real and the virtual. In Subway Series #3, he combines realistic human features, such as hands, legs, and heads, within abstract spaces that create a feeling of confusion. He blends physical and digital textures by using oil, acrylic, and giclee print, which gives the painting a layered, collage-like effect.
